About Me:
I am a photographic artist with studios on Mount Sequoyah in Northwest Arkansas and at the Mills-Davis House in downtown Little Rock. My work focuses on portraiture and constructed environments, often made in close collaboration with the people I photograph.
My best-known body of work, Habitats, began in 2004. In this series of digital photographs, I explore the lives and personalities of my sitters through carefully orchestrated arrangements of the possessions and spaces that make up their everyday environments. Using centuries old compositional devices, I create theatrically conceived portraits that move beyond the familiar objects and rooms they depict, presenting my subjects as both intimately vulnerable and heroic.
Projects such as Warrior Women, Layers, Portrayal, and #SelfieThrone follow the same structure. Each establishes a framework, invites participation, and allows meaning to emerge through the process of making the image.
My work has been published in Communication Arts, Virginia Quarterly, and Oxford American, and exhibited at institutions including Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. It has also been projected at The Louvre.
In 2026, my work will be on view at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts as part of an expanded presentation of Habitats. A new iteration of #SelfieThrone will appear at Baum Gallery at the University of Central Arkansas in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
