Habitats (2004) explores the lives of my sitters through the possessions and spaces that shape them, transforming everyday surroundings into portraits of heroism and vulnerability.
Building on Habitats, my participatory projects #SelfieThrone and Party Art turn portraiture into shared celebration. Each work invites communities to help shape the image and experience. https://selfie-throne.com/
American Stillness is me photographing what’s already been photographed, listening for what the ghosts forgot to say. America turns 250, photography 186, and I’m still out here trying to see it for the first time, moving quietly feeling like the last photographer before a generation of generated images.
Portrayal is a series of collaborative portraits that challenge the idea of candidness. Each image offers an edited reflection of identity within a shared artistic community, exploring individuality, place, and creative connection.
UFO: Ultra Flattened Objects captures my small sliver of Ozark sky, spaces just beyond reach. Like the James Webb Telescope, these images search for what lies past the visible, layering color and light into a visual poem about wonder, distance, and belonging. Represented by MIXD Gallery.
Warrior Women embraces strength in vulnerability. Each portrait features a femme subject, bared and wearing armor crafted by artist Trisha Guting from materials that reflect the subject’s world, embodying the power and defiance of women ready for battle.
Layers capture the complexity of natural spaces through overlapping perspectives. By combining images from every angle, I build a fuller story of place and the human presence within it. Represented by MIXD Gallery.
Nothing speaks to place more than my film work. I experiment with fictions I’ve invented about the Ozarks and the stillness I’ve exploited in the River Valley. These films make me feel even more trapped in the place that created me.
