Tourist Trap

Tourist Trap marks the beginning of an ongoing body of work exploring portraiture through place. After participating in an artist residency focused on storytelling and place, I began asking how photography, installation, storytelling, and hospitality could come together to construct a contemporary portrait of America. The first iteration debuted on the Fourth of July in anticipation of America's 250th anniversary.

American Stillness
Tourist Trap begins with hospitality, conversation, and storytelling. The installation prepares visitors to encounter American Stillness, a photographic series that asks whether a landscape can carry the emotional weight of a portrait. Together, the installation and photographs construct a contemporary portrait of America.
